Trying for figure out which is better for you extra virgin olive oil or a virgin olive oil or the light olive ?

Extra virgin olive oil is has the strongest flavor. They all are healthy and good for you. It depends on what your using it for which one you use though.


EVOO - is usually used to drizzle right on specific foods themselves or to make salad dressings and such.





The lighter olive oils are still good for you, but can be used more actively to cook with.

Extra virgin olive oil is what people used for thousands of years. It is healthy--just pressed from olives. All others come from ';second pressings'; and include residual chemicals used to get the stubborn oil out of the olive flesh.

depends on what you are using it for. its all about the strength of the flavor. read the label to see which is best for what you are doing.

If you want a lighter flavour then use the light or ';lite'; olive oil. But this oil is NOT lighter in kilojoules so if you're using this to avoid weight gain you're having yourself on!!





The extra virgin oil is cold pressed (no heating involved) and is probably preferable to the virgin oil which is pressed using a heating process.

It all depends on what you are doing with it. If you are making a salad or something that is not cooked then I would say to use the extra virgin olive oil. If your using it to sautee, then I would use either the light or plain virgin olive oil.

Olive oil is a monounsaturated fat, so it doesn't matter if it's extra virgin, virgin or light. Monounsaturated fat is good for you because it lowers your bad cholesterol and helps increase your good cholesterol. You do need good fat in your diet. So any olive oil is good for you, in moderation of course. If you are counting calories, then try the light although you may not like the favor as much--it tastes light.
