Would safflower work as a hair conditioner? i know you can use olive oil, but i dont have any?

couldi just use safflower?Would safflower work as a hair conditioner? i know you can use olive oil, but i dont have any?
Safflower is a good oil to use as a base that's why it's known as a 'carrier' oil. Are you planning on using it solo or mixing it w/an actual hair conditioner?

Will any old plastic spray bottle effectively spray olive oil or is a special kitchen sprayer neccesary? Thank

Any spray bottle will do.

Why are you spraying?

Are you cooking or having wild sex?

.Will any old plastic spray bottle effectively spray olive oil or is a special kitchen sprayer neccesary? Thank
Any ';old plastic spray bottle'; will do, as long as the mist is not too fine (as some hair products -- best to avoid these anyway).

And bottle should not have contained caustic elements -- bathroom cleaner.

Make sure bottle is very clean.

Best to buy a new spray bottle -- safer, cleaner, inexpensive. Will any old plastic spray bottle effectively spray olive oil or is a special kitchen sprayer neccesary? Thank
any spray bottle will do just fine

Is Olive Oil okay for my chihuahua?

I recently adopting a chihuahua from a private home. The lady recommended putting olive oil on his food because that helps their coats. Is this okay? Also is it okay to give the little guy milk every day as a ';treat';?Is Olive Oil okay for my chihuahua?
I do not know about olive oil for the coat but I know that an egg will do the trick. My chihuahua gets milk as a treat but everyone else seems to think that it is a bad idea. Have fun they are a blast..Is Olive Oil okay for my chihuahua?
A little olive oil is good. I'm not real sure about the milk. A little bit is probably okay.
the milk is not needed. the olive oil you can put a couple drops on food 1 every month would be fine. There are far better treats than milk.
First you did NOT adopt you bought a chihuahua when you could have really adopted a homeless one.

Do not give your dog milk its really bad for their stomach and may cause other health issues. Olive oil won't kill him but there is no need as long as he has a healthy daily diet. May cause loose stool.
About 1 teaspoon a day of olive oil would be great for his skin and coat. No to the milk, though, dogs don't do lactose. You could give him a tiny bit of yogurt, though - it's good for the digestion (so-fat, no-sugar added).
Olive oil is okay for coats but I prefer raw egg 2 or 3 x's wkly or flax seed oil in the event of dry skin condition. Milk given to a pup that has already been weaned is sure to produce diahhera. Get some Nutro Ultra puppy bisquits for treats.
Ask your vet these questions, then you'll know for sure. Some people feed their pets things they shouldn't out of love, when in all actuality, it's not doing them any good. Check with the vet when in doubt.
Fish oil is the best, but our vet said even cooking oil would work, just not as well. And milk should be just fine--we give it to cats, don't we?
Do not put Olive oil all the time. Just for a change now and then you may resort to it. Cream biscuits will be superior to milk to ';Treat';-but the treat is not given on daily basis !!
Olive oil is a little rich for dogs. Once in awhile, maybe, but certainly not every day. Safflower oil or sunflower oil is the best. Don't give too much, tho, or it will ';leak'; out his behind, and you will have a mess.

No! Milk is not good for a dog every day. It will give them diarrhea. Once a week, if that.
haha
Ok I'm a vet and can answer this. Dont give your dog Olive oil on food for more than three weeks each year. You can give your dog milk as a treat evey other day. if you give it to him every day he will use the bathroom all over your house. Hope this helps!

Preseed oil is very expensive, is olive oil able to be used whilst TTC?

No I would not use that. I have spoken to my doctor about the preseed and everything as well. The only other thing I have been told was completely safe for sperm is egg whites. I know that sounds nasty but it is the only other thing with the right ph balance....Preseed oil is very expensive, is olive oil able to be used whilst TTC?
NO NO NO! Any kind of lubricant (except for preseed and your natural body lubricant) is hazardous to sperm. Where do people come up with these questions?!Preseed oil is very expensive, is olive oil able to be used whilst TTC?

Olive Oil! Is it really good for you, or just not as bad as other oils?

Very good for you, when compared to other types of cooking oil!

It's a monounsaturated fat that actually helps to lower your 'bad' cholesterol levels and has very helpful antioxidents . ;-))Olive Oil! Is it really good for you, or just not as bad as other oils?
Yes. I use it as a body oil for my skin. The jews back in the time of Jesus did this very same thing. Plus you can use it in your hair too.

No way .Any oil you apply on scalp needs at least 1 hour to get absorb.According to the weather and the type of oil it can take 1 to 3 hours . twice is good enough to use oil.But make sure ur hair is shampooed well after oiling so that no dirt sticks to ur scalp.Keeping it clean is what realy matters for healthy hair.Is this true, putting olive oil before you shampoo for like 3-5 mins/1-2 times a week will improve your hair?

Is it true that olive oil helps you loose weight?

There are so many overweight people posting questions on this site that their additional weight must also be affecting their ability to spell a simple four letter word - LOSE, not LOOSE!

LOOSE weight means you have excess flab already! Is it true that olive oil helps you loose weight?
If you take a spoonful of extra LIGHT (not virgin) olive oil twice a day, thirty minutes before breakfast and dinner, it curbs your appetite, making you eat less...and generally you lose weight when that happens. Is it true that olive oil helps you loose weight?
ha no. but using EVOO (extra virgin olive olive) instead of canola oil is much healthier. hope i helped =]
i never heard that but heard it is super healthy for ur heart :]

Is olive oil really that good for the skin (moisturizer)?

Oui, l'huile d'olive est tres bon!Is olive oil really that good for the skin (moisturizer)?
nope NOT for the face , its just good for the hands and nails and others parts. Is olive oil really that good for the skin (moisturizer)?
For some people it works, but it makes me break out. You can try smoothing honey on you face, leave it on about 15 minutes, then wash with warm water and a gentle cleanser. This will leave your skin so soft and moisterized you won't believe it.
No, not really, i hope you are not putting on your body, you will smell funny all day long.
Yes. I just started using it, and it is awesome. It is also relatively cheap, since it doesn't take hardly any to put on your face.
My wife says it does. Mix it with lotion and slather it on. It really helps with winter dry skin.
yeah, and you can use it for yor hair too.
once a week olive oil body massage....and your skin will be reborn to glow and freshness!! its the best oil to apply on skin as well as hair
no it will clog your pores
    Yeah, it really is.

I've put it on my face every night for a week, and I don't even need moisturizer anymore. I can just go out without it because my skin actually feels hydrated.
yes it is i use it sometime
it has been my experience that olive oil is great for the skin, hair, nails and lips. it is a base ingredient in many of my hair care products. here is a link with some further info. And by the way i am from Mediterrenean.

olive oil for ear-mites on cats? No

olive oil for around cats' neck to avoid fleas? No

olive oil, used internally for good coat of fur on cats? No

olive oil for cats hairballs?? No

I have not had success using it for any of the above. Please comment on using OLIVE OIL on your cat?
I was told by a vet to clean my cat's ears with baby oil after they had been treated for ear mites. Also, there is an ear mite solution that can be bought over the counter that already has an oil base in it.
ear mites - won't kill them. Might slow them down a bit.. never really tried it. Since OO does go rancid, I'd be reluctant to put it in the ear.. better to go with acarexx kills and is proven to kill in one treatment

Fleas - no - better to go with a vet approved flea treatment. Don't buy flea products OTC, some are no good, some are toxic, and even the vet approved stuff if you buy OTC can be counterfit and the manufacturer won't stand behind it. Get flea products from the vet for the safest and most effective solution.

internally? sure. But be careful don't want to over do it

hairballs.. I guess. Most commercial products are mineral oil or petroium based.. which are cheaper.. (mineral oil or vaseline.. ) again, don't over do it.. or you'll end up with GI issues..

so in conclusion.. except for internally there are better and more effective and sometimes cheaper alternitives... and I'd be more inclined to give fish oils before OO for the internal option..
ear mites= no you need medication to kill the bugs

Fleas= no doesn't work you need frontline

use in food/ good for coat = yes but you should also be feeding a good brand of cat food as well, and be careful not to give to much it can cause diarrhea

hairballs,= yes, just put some on their paws and let them lick it off

this will help as a preventative but will not get rid of them, you will need meds for this

    hope this helps
Wait does any of this really work? That sounds really strange.
A teaspoon of olive oil a day can be helpful for getting a glossy coat on your animal. It may also assist with hairball elimination.

Olive oil is completely useless against fleas and ear mites. Do not put the stuff in your cat's ears!! Putting olive oil around a cat's neck will do nothing - the fleas will just jump over it and hide elsewhere on the body, as they do with flea collars.

    Chalice
They suggest Olive Oil for hairballs because it lubricates but it also gives them tummy problems, I don't advise it for THAT specific use. I'm not sure about the others however!

  • Suggestions of natural oil ( olive or other) that would be good to put on cat's coat , that they'd like?

and was beneficial to them .... not catnip! but something that would help their coat that they could lick and wouldn't make them sick...Suggestions of natural oil ( olive or other) that would be good to put on cat's coat , that they'd like?
If they're getting enough fat and nutrients in their food, they shouldn't have a problem with dry fur. If you're feeding them a cheap store brand food or a diet food, switch to a regular brand name food - if you're feeding them a brand name food already, buying some kitten food and mixing a very small amount in with their regular food every day will boost the nutrition content. There are also foods that are labeled to help with coat health. Putting oil on your cat won't help with their coat, it'll just annoy them and make them sad because you don't want to pet an oily cat.Suggestions of natural oil ( olive or other) that would be good to put on cat's coat , that they'd like?
You don't need to put oil on your cat. If it is fed a high quality cat food it is getting all the fat that it needs.

My cat has mouth issues and due not being to eat regular food I have tried vegetable oil to add fat to her diet when I was out of nutrical (something for ill cats). It gave her diarrhea and I think any oil might do this to a cat.
Are you sure that you want an oily cat? Plus generally animals don't like to lick off any oil no matter what it tastes like, the texture is just disgusting, if you don't believe that then down some straight olive oil yourself.
There's Alaskan Salmon Oil in a bottle in many pet stores that is good for fur and skin, but I'm not sure if it's just for dogs. But you put it on their food, not their skin.
I have heard putting vegetable oil in their food helps.

    Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil?

Can I substitute vegetable oil for olive oil when baking a cake?Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil?
Yes, you can substitute olive oil in baking BUT you should be using the ';extra light.'; This is not light as in calories but only in flavor. The stronger flavored olive oils would probably ruin the flavor of your delicate bakery.

My husband is on low cholesterol and I use the extra light olive oil regularly for everything from baking to frying eggs. You cannot tell that it's olive oil.Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil?
I wouldn't try it I don't think it would taste very good at all.
    Yes.
    YES
yes you can some say it tastes diffrent but add an extra pinch of sugar and its all the same (tastes it anyways)
no! it taste funny. olive oil is more versatile.
    yes
You can but in my experience it can give the cake a stronger, slightly rancid taste. Depends on the flavor of the cake I suppose.
If you want your cake to taste like olives! Olive oil has it's own unique flavor.
Sure. Next time you bake a cake, you can try this one. 7 Up pound cake. Also a fun site on cooking.
No way.......use olive oil for savory, not sweet.
    yes
Olive oil is not ideal for baking or cooking, unless a something like a stir fry. The problem with cooking with olive oil is that it is extremely sensitive to heat. If you are tryng to find a healthy alternative to regular vegetable oil, try canola.

Does olive oil help prevent acne?

Does it really help an oily face and acne to apply virgin olive oil to your face?Does olive oil help prevent acne?
It doesn't work for every one. But some people have seen improvement by the continuous use of an olive oil treatment.

Do not be afraid of applying olive oil to your face. Oil, alone, will not bring you blemishes. Pimples, cysts, zits, blackheads, whiteheads...these are a result of several different factors including hormones, bacteria, dead skin cells and the buildup of these factors. Your skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. It is not a malicious force to be reckoned with; it is there for the benefit of your skin, allowing your largest organ to function properly. It is naturally occurring. Not only does your natural oil help lubricate, it also heals, protects, and moisturizes your skin so that it may function properly.

Castor oil too is good for an oily face for the treatment of acne.

I felt like I was turning more heads as I was walking down the street ...But my friend killed my mood when she saw me, as she said I looked like a big greaseball when I told her about it...

??If they squeeze olives to get olive oil, how do they get baby oil?
I love silly questions........and the obvious answer is ? Well the obvious in not correct. Baby Oil is concocted with mineral oil, tocopheryl acetate, aloe extract and fragrant ingredients intended to be used after daily bath or diaper change to restore moisture and prevent dryness or you can use a few drops to the baby's bathwater. It is intended to be non greasy and mild enough for your newborn's skin. If they squeeze olives to get olive oil, how do they get baby oil?

I would take it back to the store and ask for either your money back, or another can. Obviously, some kind of impurity got into the can during the canning process. I don't know if it will make you sick. It depends on what the impurity is. Do you still have the receipt? Your case would be pretty easy to plead. Vegetable oil or Olive?

I prefer Olive oil for cooking.

What do you cook with?Vegetable oil or Olive?
For most of my cooking I use Olive oil, but it really depends on what I'm cooking because it isn't the best oil for all types of cooking.....Vegetable oil or Olive?
Depends on what you are cooking, olive oil is healthier and so some people use it explicitly, how ever it is also more expensive and should be dependent on the dish, I also lke to drizzle a little on fresh green salads, for most things though olive oil and veg are interchangable, if all you need is a little fat to fry with and arent worried about not having the olive oil flavor, then vegoil or even butter is an acceptable substitute, just remember thay while you need to use fats and oils sparingly that fat is flavor.
    olive oil for cooking

    veg oil for baking
if cooking meat though, cook on high heat in a gridle pan, ..no oil at all, any oil isnt good for you, its just how much, and olive oil is one of the least harmful oils to your health, but still an oil. Some butters, margarines come with omega 3 oils good for health but found in fish etc......., but too much goes a long way to reversing the effects for your body.
Definitely depends on what I'm making. For Mexican food like Rellenos it's veg oil for sure. I use olive oil about 75% of the time. Always veg oil for baking and heavy frying.
    olive oil
EVOO rules. I have some peanut oil in the fridge for asian cooking, but day-in and day out it's Costco EVOO.
Olive oil for anything savory. Canola oil for anything sweet. They are the 2 healthiest oils!
    Olive Oil

    Enova Oil

    Veg oil (only for baking)
A sunflower %26amp; canola oil mix, it's nutritionally better than olive or canola oil on its own (according to the nutritional analysis on labels). I also use olive oil, but it can be expensive as the main oil in the long run.
    olive all the food.
Depends on what I am cooking. If the taste of olive oil won't overpower the dish, I use it because of the health benefits. For baking and dishes where I don't want to taste the oil, I use canola oil (it is healthier than vegetable). Also, there are a few instances where butter is the best option--- but very few!

Eating to much Extra virgin olive oil?

Will it make you fat? Ive kinda been eating it a lot with balsmic vinager and tomatoes?Eating to much Extra virgin olive oil?
Not if you exerciseEating to much Extra virgin olive oil?
too much of anything isnt good 4 you
1 tbs a day of unsaturated fat is healthy, anymore than that is excess.
You need variety. By by the way, vinegar is known to curb appetite, so

    do beans of many varieties.
    never heard that before.

there are a lot of oils that are healthy for you, but you should take it moderation because due to the amounts of certain nutritional components in it it can be harmful to you in saturated amounts and cause health problems.

but becoming fat it isn't one of those issues you will have to worry about
It's an oil, so it can make you gain weight. I think there is something like 80 calories per 2 tablespoons. Check the bottle. But olive oil is so good for your skin and hair. And it is similar to an avacado, where it has a lot of good healty fats. Try extra light olive oil to save some calories, but the taste will be affected! I say, you only live once, olive oil is a great addition to any dish! My boyfriend is Italian (strait off the boat Italian) and I couldn't dream of making him a dish without olive oil. So oil up baby!! : )
Eating too much of anything is bad for you, even olive oil and tomatoes. If you're eating 1 cup of it a day, it's just too much. If you're eating 3 TB of it a day, you're going to be fine.

Keep it within the serving size - one serving size per meal. As long as you do that, you'll be fine.
    na your good yo
eventually it will if you don't exercise. but it's the healthiest oil you can eat.

Of course, too much of it could probably cause you to end up in the bathroom frequently... if you know what I mean.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil is probably one of the best oils that you can eat. However, just like anything else, if you consume too much of it, it's not all that healthy but most likely it won't make you fat. But maybe the stuff that you use with the Olive Oil will.

Balsamic Vinegar has a lot of fat in it so it's great for a salad here and there, but you don't want to eat it everyday, you know? And tomatoes have no intent on making you fat so whether you eat five or fifty, you probably won't get fat. So eat them up!
yes just because it is healthy doesn't make it less in calorie content.
    yes it will, but yum!

Olive oil vs butter for cooking?

I recently read that you shouldn't cook on the stovetop with olive oil and that it's better to use butter, b/c it doesn't break down as easily. I have been cooking with olive oil FOREVER. So, waht's wrong with cooking with olive oil ont he stove top? And what is the purpose of olive oil if not to cook with??? SO confused.Olive oil vs butter for cooking?
if you cook at really high temperatures with olive oil, it can burn and smoke. and apparently that breaks down the health benefits of the olive oil. but if you just cook at a moderate temperature, and don't have the pan screaming hot, you're fine. butter is not better. it is more flavorful for certain recipes, but not better.Olive oil vs butter for cooking?
Keep on using your olive oil. You can't deep fry with it, it breaks down at temperatures that high, but butter can't be used for that either. I find that you can heat olive oil someone higher than butter, just don't use it on top heat, use salad or vegetable oil instead.
I find that butter burns too easily and really doesn't last long at all. Besides, olive oil is much healthier to use than butter.
I use olive oil in a lot of my raw food dishes, so it can definitly be used for a lot other than cooking. Plus it's better for you than butter when it comes to cooking. I don't know aboutolive oil breaking down easier than butter, but millions of people use it to cook with and don't complain. I'd keep doing what you're doing.
butter burns easier. Stick with olive oil. Are you sure they were not telling you to not cook with expensive extra virgin olive oil? That should be use in salads and stuff, not cooked.
Nothing is wrong with cooking with olive oil or butter. Sometimes its a taste preference, or cooking method. I don't understand that either because the solids in butter burn easily, unless they are using clarified butter.

You can make your own sunscreen using olive oil and other ingredients, but I think your herbalist has smoked something

    http://www.wikihow.com/Make-SunscreenOlive oil instead of sunscreen?
The TRUTH: Some plant oils contain natural sunscreens. Sesame oil resists 30 percent of UV rays; Olive oil, about 20 percent. Mineral oil (aka ';baby oil';) is derived from petroleum and doesn't resist any UV rays and dissolves the body's own protective oils to retain moisture! Very, very bad. Report Abuse

Organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil is brilliant as a moisturiser for your skin but if you use it as your only form of sun protection you will burn terribly. Safe sun exposure is the best way to avoid getting sunburnt ie ~ cover up with loose clothing and a sun hat and avoid the harsh rays of the sun when it is at is strongest ie ~ between 10a.m. %26amp; 2p.m..................... ;0)

    CHEERS
the oil will definately attract the sun and burn you. . . just like tanning oil is meant to do- attract the sun. Maybe she uses the oil to achieve a quick tan. If you want something made from natural ingredients why not try Burts Bee's sunscreen : it has gotten pretty good ratings, stays put during sports, and protects well for only about 8 dollars.
olive oil ';organic'; or otherwise has no natural sunscreen in it. It i an oil and will moisturize the skin only.

If you use this only, you will get a nasty burn.
I used to use iodine in olive oil to get more sun,,,,,,,,not block it...........

    wouldnt that make you burn?

Olive oil to help with ear wax and ache?

my doctor suggested i drop a few drops of olive oil into my severely waxed up ear.

i've been having ear ache and ache all on the left side of cheek and jaw for the past 3 days. Doctor says she can't see the problem because of the wax.

any idea how long it will take for the olive oil will help rid my ear of wax?

the pain is very upsettingOlive oil to help with ear wax and ache?
Keep up with the olive oil and it should sort itself out in a few days.

If you've been poking away trying to dig out the wax it's possible you've scratched the ear, or scraped away too much wax (it's a necessary protective coating), and allowed a mild infection to set in. It's not easy, but try not to scratch at it with anything. Let the olive oil do the work.

Seems daft - I had to use earplugs overnight a few years ago. A wonderful side-effect was that the wax stuck to them and came out a treat!Olive oil to help with ear wax and ache?
warm up the olive oil slightly in the microwave, and then dip a cotton bud into the oil and gently put it into your ear.. my parents taught me this when i was younger and it does seem to help slightly..

if that doesn't work maybe ask the doctor to irrigate your ear? i had that done once ages ago and seemed to help...

i have a really bad earache too =(
it is better if you warm it a bit first after you can even use a cotton to massag it even at the back of your ear aswell it will help i used to do it.
Mineral oil is good. Did he give you t-3 as well?

if no you may/can ask for t-1 over the counter at the drug store.

  • Does anyone use olive oil relaxer at home?

Yes I use it and I love it!!!! I love that whole line of products...my hair has been so healthy since using it. You sould try it and just keep with it for awhile and you will see your hair make a great change...it will be so healthy!!! Be BlessedDoes anyone use olive oil relaxer at home?
I tried it once. It was no different then any other home relaxer kit I've used. I don't relax my hair at home anymore as I tend to under/over process it. I have my hair dresser do it now. If you can afford the expense, it's usually better to have someone else do it.Does anyone use olive oil relaxer at home?
I use the Olive Oil Relaxer and I love it! I have been relaxing my own hair for years now, so the experience helps as far as processing it right. The Olive Oil really brings your hair back to a healthy state and even keeps it healthy after the processing. Its the best home relaxer I've ever used. I also use some of their other products such as the Oil Sheen and moisterizer.

Has anyone ever tried a honey & olive oil hair mask?

i am black and i have relaxed(permed) hair and i want to know if a honey and olive oil hair mask will actually work. What its supposed to do is moisterize and add shine to your hair. Can anyone help me?Has anyone ever tried a honey %26amp; olive oil hair mask?
Yes!! I am female and white but I have very dry, course and frizzy hair. I have tried so many products to moisturize my hair, tame the frizziness, etc., but none of them have worked on my hair. A friend of mine got this make-at-home recipe from her hair dresser and it is great! I don't know if you are talking about a homemade conditioner and/or mask, or a product on the market, but my make-at-home recipe contains the same two ingredients you mentioned in your post.

It's called, ';Rosemary Honey Olive Oil Hair Conditioner';. The honey in this conditioner will add shine while the olive oil is great for extra moisture. The treatment is enhanced with rosemary essential oil to stimulate hair growth - you can leave this ingredient out, but I prefer to leave it in because it stimulates healthy hair growth. Here's the recipe:

    鈥?1/2 cup honey

鈥?1/4 cup warmed olive oil (2 tablespoons for normal to oily hair)

    鈥?4 drops rosemary essential oil

鈥?1 tsp of xanthan gum (available at health food stores)

Place all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix thoroughly. Pour into a clean plastic bottle with a snug-fitting cap. To use, apply a small amount to your slightly dampened hair. Massage your scalp and work the conditioner through your hair until it is completely and evenly distributed. Next, cover your hair with a warm towel (your microwave or dryer can heat it up) or shower cap. Leave the conditioner on for 30 minutes. Shampoo lightly and rinse with cool water. Dry as you would normally.

I can't say enough good things about this stuff - I just love it. It's the only thing that has ever worked on my hair and it makes it so shiny, soft and manageable - and no more frizzy hair!!!

I see no reason why you shouldn't give it a try - one thing for sure, it won't harm your hair. And I think you will be very happy if you do try it. I usually condition my hair once a week with this recipe and I can't remember how long I've been using it. The first time you use it, you will notice a difference, and the second time will be even better. After you have used it on a regular basis, you will not believe the difference in your hair.

So what have you got to lose if you give it a try? Go for it and I hope it works as well for you as it does for me! Good Luck!Has anyone ever tried a honey %26amp; olive oil hair mask?
Well I am white, so our hair is a little different... But, my hair is extremely damaged from all kinds of die (mostly bleach) and lots of extensions... I put Extra Virgin Olive Oil on my hair once a week... I actually do it before bed or sometimes earlier if I know I am going to stay at home, then I actually leave it in overnight. I put a towel down on my pillow to cover it and it makes a huge difference... Good luck! :)
Im also black with relaxed hair and believe me IT WORKS! Im not sure about the honey but olive oil alone will do just fine.It moisturizes your hair and gives it some shine. It works until you wash it out.But let me warn you, dont go crazy with it.If you put on too much olive oil you'll be dealing with an oily mess. But overall I give the olive oil treatment alot of thumbs up.

I have dry sensitive skin...soaps and other chemical filled products just kill my skin...I have been using olive oil for its purity and gentleness for years...

just put a little in you hand and wipe it all over your face...then tissue off the excess...use a hot cloth to wipe your face with...then cold water splashes about twenty times and you are just gorgeous...there will be no pimples, dryness, irritation, or any other negative side effect...even those with oily skin can use it...fact is Olive oil is pure and clean. What do you think about putting Olive Oil directly on ur skin?
olive oil is good for your skin
actually, i've never put olive oil that i could buy from grocery stores on my skin. however, i have used a line from japan called DHC for years now whose most popular line is olive oil based skin care products. but the olive oil they carry is cosmetic grade, even higher than food grade.
    one word: Pimples.

Who needs to clog their pores?
It'd be great, just add vinegar %26amp; lettuce, %26amp; veggies, %26amp; voila....instant salad. %26lt;jk%26gt; I won't put that stuff on my face, it's too oily %26amp; will clog your pores. There are way too many skin products on the market, to buy, that are great for your face.
I use it for tanning purposes and my skin is very soft and smooth.
Its fine sometimes, but if you do it to much it will clog your pores. i do it everyone once in a while as well
I have used it for years under my eyes. I have combination skin so I would not use it anywhere else on my face. I love it though and it is wonderful on damp skin out of the shower to combat dryness! Try to get a little of that olive oil inside the body too! Also, you may want to try to eat avocados because they are wonderful for ';oiling up'; the inside as well as the outside! I have found it is not only what you put on your body but what you are putting inside that counts the most!

Drink plenty of pure or distilled water every day and get lots of veggies and fruits like blueberries and sweet potatoes! You will find that your skin will improve in a dramatic way!
I would not advise it. Could cause break-outs.
As a pro makeup artist I actually recommend to many of my clients, esp. those with very dry skin, to use olive oil or other natural oils on their skin. These are better for your skin, even your face, because they are not petroleum (Think motor oil) based. Use sparingly %26amp; only the very light olive oil so you won't smell like a salad.
yeah why not its also good for hair adds protein
This would be the only type of olive oil I would suggest to put on your face

  • Roasted red peppers, olive oil?

    any recipes for this?

am unsure of how much olive oil to use, and what temperatures.

    thanksRoasted red peppers, olive oil?
    roasted peppers in olive oil

    6 red bell peppers

    1/2 bunch fresh oregano

    2 cloves garlic, sliced

    1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

    2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Place the peppers directly onto the burners of a gas stove. Cook the peppers, turning frequently, until they are charred on all sides. Put the peppers into a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let them steam for about 15 minutes. (If you do not have a gas stove preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Coat the peppers with some olive oil and place them on a baking sheet. Cook the peppers until they are soft and have collapsed, about 1 hour. Set the peppers aside until they are cool enough to handle.)

Peel, stem, and seed the peppers; cut them into wide strips. Place the warm pepper strips into a shallow serving dish. Top with the oregano, garlic, olive oil, and vinegar. Season them with salt and pepper and mix them gently to combine the flavors. Let them sit to cool and serve at room temperature.Roasted red peppers, olive oil?
Just enough oil to cover the peppers.....add fresh garlic cloves also....TO DIE FOR!! 350 degree oven for approx 15 to 20 minutes....MADE ME HUNGRY!!! Can either just eat them with your fingers or put over rice or pasta...YUMM!! I just make a large dish and eat with fingers.....
All you do is drizzle it over the red peppers, broil it (500*)

charred a little on one side, flip it over and do the same.

well i have naturally curly hair i decide to straighten it 2 times a months, so i was tired of frizz wen it was straight, i did some research and if your put olive oil in your hair its suppose to make your hair shiny and non-frizzy and now my hair looks greasy. is there any way to get the oil out with out weting my hair?I put olive oil in my hair, now its greasy looking?
Go with that Look, Women Look Great with the slicked back look, Look at the women on This Yahoo Groups.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/greaserwom鈥?/a>I put olive oil in my hair, now its greasy looking?
Try putting some baby powder in your hair, shaking just a little on your roots and then shaking it through your hair. It might not absorb all of the oil, but it should do something.

Also, to get the condition you're looking for, it's not good to just put the oil in your dry hair. It's more for using as a deep conditioner; mix some with youghurt, brown sugar, and an egg (the egg is optional!), put it on your hair, cover it with a shower cap, wait 5-10 minutes, then wash it out with warm water then cool water. It worked well for me, and for my friend, who has thick, curly hair.

    Hope I helped!
first of all, why are you putting any kind of oil in your hair? human hair already has natural oils that when not washed enough looks greasy enough so why add to it? second, try any l'oreal or garnier fruitice sleek and shine stuff...it works like a charm! then after showering, take some john freida anti-frizz serum and run your fingers through your damp to wet hair with the serum on them.

to answer your other question, no there's no other way to get the oil out without wetting it down or greasing it up more with other products. please don't go into your pantry and see what stuff can go into your hair because i know that the only thing in my pantry that i pu into my hair that makes any sort of difference is peanut butter when you're trying to get gum out of your hair.
if ur going to use oil, u may as well use almond oil, i find it's less greasy and smells way better (actually it doesnt smell at all)...i had olive oil in my hair b4, and i washed it no problem. maybe next time, dont put so much on.
Nope! I used olive oil in my hair and it stayed greasy for 2 days :-(. You have to shampoo. Don't even think about conditioner though!!!!!!

The hummus i bought from WinCo is in powder form. Does anyone how much water and olive oil to add?

Wow! I've never heard of powdered hummus.

Just in case you want to make your own... It's easy. It usually takes me about 5 minutes. Here is my recipe.

1 large can (about 25 oz) chickpeas. They are also called “garbanzo” beans

2 tblsp of tahini (it’s like peanut butter, except it’s made from sesame seeds. You don’t need to put this in, but I always do. I hear that peanut butter is a good substitute, but I haven’t tried it. )

1 jar of roasted red bell pepper strips. (you will only need about half of a 16 oz jar)

about 3 tblsp of olive oil

Salt and cayenne pepper to taste

About 2 tsp of minced garlic.

    Juice of 1 lemon

    1. Rinse the beans in water until all of the nasty viscous liquid runs down the drain.

    2. Shake the excess water from the beans and add them to a food processor with the tahini and garlic

    3. Add ½ tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper

    4. Add about 4 oz of roasted red bell peppers (Shake off the excess liquid before you put them in the processor)

    5. Let the processor run

    6. If the beans don’t look red enough, add a more bell pepper

    7. Add about 3 tblsp of olive oil.

    8. Add the ½ the lemon juice

    9. Taste for seasoning. You will probably want a little more salt and lemon, juice

This recipe makes enough to feed an army and last up to a week in the refrigerator. Feel free to cut the recipe in half.

I spread this hummus on toasted Nann bread, and topp it with capers, calamata olives, shallots and roasted red bell peppers. I serve it like pizza.

I have been making this for years

2 days agoThe hummus i bought from WinCo is in powder form. Does anyone how much water and olive oil to add?
Are there no instructions? It sounds to me as though you've just bought chickpea flour. I would just add warm water till you've got the right consistency, and then olive oil to taste.

TBH I wouldn't have bought this stuff in the first place. If you want to make it yourself you buy dried chickpeas and boil 'em then puree 'em then add oil and garlic and lemon juice.

    see a dr
Putting olive oil(also called sweet oil) in the ear may reduce the pain a bit, but will have absolutly have no affect on the infection. The only thing that will affect the infection would be an antibiotic.
to tell the truth, I don't know. I would go to the dr to make sure that its not just an ear infection first. Then I would follow dr directions before I did anything else.

Does Olive Oil go bad after a few years?

I've had this bottle of Olive oil for about 10 years now. is it safe to useDoes Olive Oil go bad after a few years?
Here in Spain, we oil producers bottle oil in plastic 5 litre bottles.

As oil is use the bottle can be squeezed to excule air and so prolong the life of the oil. I have oil that is now six years old and it is fine.

Should you buy olive oil in a glass bottle, to exclude the air try dropping a few marbles into the bottle till the oil reaches the top. Simple.Does Olive Oil go bad after a few years?
No, all oils oxidize and get rancid. Shelf life is a year or less, depending how you store it. Fridge storage extends and is best if you don't use it often...rather an expensive extravagance and waste of good oil...use it. It is heart healthier!
Yes it can go bad, especially after that long. I would taste it though. You will know as soon as you taste it if it is OK. A little taste will not hurt you if it is bad. It just wont taste very good.
It's rancid by now. Most olive oil stays good in a dark pantry for up to 6 months. It's time to toss out what you've got and replace it.

http://www.ochef.com/64.htm about the shelf life of cooking oils
10 years is too long even under the best storage conditions. I suspect it is rancid and probably has been rancid for 7 years. Why ruin good ingredients with bad olive oil. Toss it and replace with fresh
it's probably ';safe';, but probably tastes like crap. Oil eventually goes rancid. Pitch it and buy some new. In a very small bottle.
Sometimes it can go rancid, it changes color ( gets darker ) and has a bad odor. It should be stored in a cool dark place to keep longer.
I wouldn't use it. Not worth the risk.

    Or greasy and gross??

I just cover the bottom half of my hair, ( because it will be sucked up the hair shaft anyway,) and put on a shower cap and wait about 30 minutes, or you could put it on over night. :)

Hope I helped :)Have you ever put olive oil in your hair when dry??? What did it do?
Before using things such as olive oil have you ever tried a hair serum?

Hair serums basically provide the hair with a cover of silicon which makes them more shiny, manageable and less frizzy. They're also very cheap from chemists such as boots.

Not sure about olive oil though!
Sure, many people use olive oil as a pre-shampoo treatement in the way you described. I have very dry hair so I use the olive oil as a hot oil treatement.
It's similar to a hot oil treatment. Works great, but leave it in for a while. I leave my hair wrapped up in an old towel for 15-20 minutes before my shower..

    Olive oil's health benefits

The greatest exponent of monounsaturated fat is olive oil, and it is a prime component of the Mediterranean Diet. Olive oil is a natural juice which preserves the taste, aroma, vitamins and properties of the olive fruit. Olive oil is the only vegetable oil that can be consumed as it is - freshly pressed from the fruit.

The beneficial health effects of olive oil are due to both its high content of monounsaturated fatty acids and its high content of antioxidative substances. Studies have shown that olive oil offers protection against heart disease by controlling LDL (';bad';) cholesterol levels while raising HDL (the ';good'; cholesterol) levels. (1-3) No other naturally produced oil has as large an amount of monounsaturated as olive oil -mainly oleic acid.

Olive oil is very well tolerated by the stomach. In fact, olive oil's protective function has a beneficial effect on ulcers and gastritis. Olive oil activates the secretion of bile and pancreatic hormones much more naturally than prescribed drugs. Consequently, it lowers the incidence of gallstone formation.

    Olive oil and heart disease

Studies have shown that people who consumed 25 milliliters (mL) - about 2 tablespoons - of virgin olive oil daily for 1 week showed less oxidation of LDL cholesterol and higher levels of antioxidant compounds, particularly phenols, in the blood.(4)

But while all types of olive oil are sources of monounsaturated fat, EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil, from the first pressing of the olives, contains higher levels of antioxidants, particularly vitamin E and phenols, because it is less processed.

Olive oil is clearly one of the good oils, one of the healing fats. Most people do quite well with it since it does not upset the critical omega 6 to omega 3 ratio and most of the fatty acids in olive oil are actually an omega-9 oil which is monounsaturated.

    Olive oil and colon cancer

Spanish researchers suggest that including olive oil in your diet may also offer benefits in terms of colon cancer prevention (5). Their study results showed that rats fed diet supplemented with olive oil had a lower risk of colon cancer than those fed safflower oil-supplemented diets. In fact, the rats that received olive oil had colon cancer rates almost as low as those fed fish oil, which several studies have already linked to a reduction in colon cancer risk.

    Types of olive oil

Generally, olive oil is extracted by pressing or crushing olives. Olive oil comes in different varieties, depending on the amount of processing involved. Varieties include:

Extra virgin - considered the best, least processed, comprising the oil from the first pressing of the olives.

Virgin - from the second pressing.

Pure - undergoes some processing, such as filtering and refining.

Extra light - undergoes considerable processing and only retains a very mild olive flavour.

When buying olive oil you will want to obtain a high quality EXTRA VIRGIN oil. The oil that comes from the first ';pressing'; of the olive, is extracted without using heat (a cold press) or chemicals, and has no ';off'; flavors is awarded ';extra virgin'; status. The less the olive oil is handled, the closer to its natural state, the better the oil. If the olive oil meets all the criteria, it can be designated as ';extra virgin';.

What is pure and light olive oil? ';Pure'; olive oil is made by adding a little extra virgin olive oil to refined olive oil. It is a lesser grade oil that is also labeled as just ';olive oil'; in the U.S.

';Light'; olive oil is a marketing concept and not a classification of olive oil grades. It is completely unregulated by any certification organizations and therefore has no real precedent to what its content should be. Sometimes, the olive oil is cut with other vegetable oilsIs olive oil really good for you?
    yes it is!!!!
As with the others, it is good for you. Just be aware that it has about 120 calories per tablespoon. If you eat a bunch, you will put on weight. It's all about calories in vs calories out. If you use olive oil instead of other alternatives like butter or lard, you will increase your health dramatically.
Yes, naturally low in cholesterol, olive oil has been shown to produce less harmful, and more beneficial effects than other vegetable oils.
Yeah it is.....much healthier than regular cooking oils.
yes, because it is a good skin moisturizer.
Yes, it is a key reason that people in the Mediterranean

    countries are healthy.
yes but it is a fat so use in moderation
yes, i have read a lot of good things about olive oil...same with macademian nuts and canola oil.

Don't know if the actual olive oil help get rid of acne but if you are interested in this ingredient I suggest you order the deep cleansing oil from DHC it contains olive oil. The cleanser is an actual oil texture but once rinse with water it become soapy like form. I have used it for about a week after I had terrible bumps/acne on my right cheek and now it has gone down and looks much clearer. Try it!
rubbing olive oil all over your face, you’re actually dissolving the “bad” oils in your skin.
The best thing to use is Bio-oil. Not sure how it works though! You could look it up on Google !

    Hope that helps.

Is olive oil good for the skin?

pour table salt all over it and let it soak for a minuet then you should be able to scoop it up, then use some hot soapy water to finishMy sister just spilled a ton of olive oil over our tile/grout kitchen do you know a good way to remove it all?
Cover the oil with cheap kitty litter, salt, or cornstarch to soak up the oil. The scoop it up in to the trashcan. Then use some dish soap and hot water to get the rest of the oil off the floor. You'll need to rinse all of the soap off of the floor.
I heard scrubbing toothpaste over grout/tile also helps clean it. goodluck!

Which olive oil should be used to moisturize my skin? Extra virgin, pomace, regular olive oil?

Extra virgin. This is expeller pressed, not solvent extracted and has no chemical pollutants in it.

Extra virgin. This is the highest quality. I make skin care products and I use EVOO. (Extra virgin olive oil) If you don't want to be greasy you can add a little to a light moisturizer to start.

  • Why is it that one olive tree produces between 10 and 15 liters of olive oil....?

it takes a whole year to grow the olives. the watering, land and harvest cost which are expensive cause the tree grows in warm lands where there is not a lot of water..................... and still 1 liter of oil costs 2 dollars at your supermarket? Why is it that one olive tree produces between 10 and 15 liters of olive oil....?
Over 750 million olive trees are cultivated worldwide, 95% of which are in the Mediterranean region. Most of global production comes from Southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

750 MILLION. That's a buttload of olive trees.

World production in 2002 was 2.6 million tonnes, of which Spain contributed 40% to 45%. In 2006, Turkey accounted for about 5% of world production, similar to the Spanish province of Ja茅n alone, well known for the biggest olive groves in the world. Of the European production, 93% comes from Spain, Italy, Greece.

Greece devotes 60% of its cultivated land to olive growing. It is the world's top producer of black olives and has more varieties of olives than any other country. Greece holds third place in world olive production with more than 132 million trees, which produce approximately 350,000 tons of olive oil annually, of which 82% is extra-virgin. About half of the annual Greek olive oil production is exported, but only some 5% of this reflects the origin of the bottled product. Greece exports mainly to European Union countries, principally Italy, which receives about three-quarters of total exports. Olives are grown for oil in mainland Greece, with Peloponnese being the source of 65% of Greek production, as well as in Crete, the Aegean Islands and Ionian Islands. Why is it that one olive tree produces between 10 and 15 liters of olive oil....?

Would it be better to fry a high fat food in Olive oil? cnsidring olive oil is a High-Density Lipoprotein.....

It can be used successfully for frying but be aware that the strong flavor of olive oil will still transfer to whatever you are cooking. If the food you are preparing is already high in fat, it won't make much of a nutritional difference at all. When you fry something at the correct temperature, very little of the oil should still be left on the food after cooking. It actually uses the moisture aleady present in the food to cook it. That is why you see the bubbles coming up. If the oil is too cool, it will soak into the food and make it greasy. Don't get me wrong, frying still adds a lot of fat and calories.

Check out this website which will tell you everythig you need to know about cooking with, storing, buying, and using olive oil. It's a great resource.

No Problem....chuck it in the garbage!I have an olive oil stain on my favorite t-shirt,any ideas how to get rid of please?
Dawn dishwashing liquid! Dawn is used all over the planet to clean up oil spills in the oceans, to wash dishes and has a great reputation for breaking up grease. Just squirt a little on the stain rub and allow to sit for a few minutes. Wash as normal. Check before putting in the dryer to be sure the entire stain is gone. The dryer will set the stain and the stain will be perminate.

Check out the reputation dawn has for cleaning up any kind of oil!
cover it with salt for a while then wash it.
    ';ummmmmmmmmmmmm wash it????????????';
Try soaking the stain with Simple Green or orange oil to break up the grease. Keep doing it and don't dry the shirt until it's out or you will set the stain.
There is an Oxy %26amp; Woolite spray you can get in the grocery laundry section: the stuff is fantastic. You may have to let it sit on the stain for a few days and keep spraying it on but it will take it off completely.

What makes virgin olive oil ';virgin?';?

Olive oil is a fruit oil obtained from the olive and ';virgin'; olive oil means the oil was produced by the use of physical means (by pressing) and no chemical treatment - it is a pure oil. Virgin olive oil has an acidity less than 2%, a good natural taste and there can be no refined oil in virgin olive oil - ';refined oil'; means that although the essence is similar, the taste and acidity were chemically produced.

Extra-virgin olive oil comes from ';cold pressing'; of the olives, contains no more than 0.8% acidity, and is judged to have a superior taste and is the purest olive oil (heat changes the acidity %26amp; taste). There can be no refined oil in extra-virgin olive oil.

The word ';virgin'; refers to the grade and the purity of the oil in regard to acidity and taste and means that it has not been chemically altered. What makes virgin olive oil ';virgin?';?

Why is taking olive oil supposed to move gallstones?

Bile Salts And The Cholesterol is made in the liver. Bile Salts are then discharge from the gallbladder into the intestine to help digest fats. These bile salts are soapy substances. They are produce in response to the amount of fat in the diet requiring digestion. Sometimes these salts can become stones within the gallbladder itself; the stories often contain substantial amount of cholesterol. The stones cause inflammation, if muscular gallbladder tries to expel them, blockage of the bile ducts by the stones may cause pain, additional inflammation, or jaundice (yellowing).

How do you removed GallBladder Stones?

    RECOMMENDED PRACTICE:

For the first 5 days, take 4 glasses of apple juice everyday or eat 4 or 5 apples, whichever you prefer. Apple juice softens the gallstones. During the 5 days, eat normally.

On the 6th day, take no dinner. Avoid food after 2 pm. At 6 pm, take a teaspoon of Epson Salt (magnesium sulphate) with a glass of warm water. At 8 pm, repeat the same. Magnesium Sulphate opens the gallbladder ducts.

(Tip: Buy the Epson Salt before you start this program. We tried buying Epson Salt at six (6) Mercury drug stores where we live but they don't have it. Finally, we found some at Mercury drug branch in Quiapo, Manila near the Quiapo Church).

At 10 pm, take 陆 cup OLIVE OIL or sesame oil with 陆 cup fresh lemon juice. Mix it well and drink it. The oil lubricates the stones to ease their passage.

(Important tip: Drink slowly for better result, avoid food after 2 pm and expect more output the next day.)

The next morning, you will find green stones in your stools. Usually they float.

Can i use olive oil for my baby's dry scaly scalp?

he's 3 months old and very irritated with his scalp. he lost a lot of hairs too and has bald patches now..help

is there a special shampoo? Can i use olive oil for my baby's dry scaly scalp?
For very dry skin on my kids, I used Aquaphor. My son and daughter both had very dry scalp, hands and feet after birth. I got a sample from the hospital when I had my daughter and it worked miracles on her dry skin, so before I had my son I went and bought some. I would recommend it to anyone who has a new baby with dry skin.

If you would like to try it here is what the label says...

    Aquaphor healing ointment from Eucerin.

advanced healing for dry, cracked,or irritated skin

soothes, protects and restores smooth, healthy skin.

As for the hair loss, that is very normal. My daughter lost all of the hair on top of her head. I have a pic of her with my dad when she was around 2 or 3 months old and they have the same hairline. My son just lost all of his hair, he is totally bald now. My niece and nephew were both born with a headfuls of hair and both ended up with mo hawks! Your baby will lose most of or all of his hair but it will grow back soon.

Good luck and congratulations on the new angel in your home! Can i use olive oil for my baby's dry scaly scalp?
I love Pepper's answer too. Thanks all for sharing. I did use olive oil and yes it was effective on my baby and i like it because it's natural and doesn't smell a lot unlike coconut oil. Report Abuse

Baby oil. Works great and is alot cheaper too!
Olive oil is the healthiest oil to use. But as usual its difficult to wash off. Other than that its the best thing to use for your sons condition.
Try mineral oil or petroleum jelly before shampooing w/ baby shampoo. If this is severe, you may need to use an antiseborrheic shampoo and/or ointment that contains sulfur salicylates (be sure to keep out of baby's eyes) after the oil treatment. Keep your baby's head cool and dry and don't put a hat on him. Also make sure and report this condition to your Pediatrician.
we use johnson baby products to be safety
yes you can, I asked my dermitologist for a natural way to get rid of cradle cap and that is what they suggested
Baby oil is the best thing to use. Don't worry about the bald patches. It's normal for this age, as they lose the newborn hair and get that nice soft aby hair. :) If his scalp has yellowish/brownish scaly stuff it's probably cradle cap and baby oil is perfect. After you let it soak into his head for a few minutes you can gently loosen the cradle cap with a baby comb. then wash thoroughly. It should go away soon.
theres alot of oils in stores that u can put on here baby hair thats made for hair!!!
here we use almond oil. but it's a bit hard to wash off then so I use Cradle Cap shampoo which works fine. the hairs falling off is normal. babies lose all the hair that they are born with and will grow new hair which will be there to stay!
i used olive oil for my kids when they were babies and developed dry scaly scalp. it worked good. after you take your baby a bath and dry his head, massage a little oil around his head. this will prevent his head from being too dry. eventually all his old hair which he was born with will fall and new hair will start coming out. you will start noticing little hairs growing in the bald spots and this hair is what will be on him as he gets older.

don't use any shampoo except baby shampoo. use johnson's or menen baby shampoo but nothing else. his old hair falling and dry scalp is the MOST normal thing to happen to babies at his age. his new hair will be much softer and nicer and more full than the one that is falling out. you will be surprised when he has a full head of hair by the time he is a year old! it will be beautiful not like the one that is falling right now!
I used baby oil for cradle cap and it worked great.
You can absolutely use Olive Oil.

The only drawback would be like using any other *oil*, it will be difficult to wash out.

I would check with your doctor if your baby seems so irritated. I have never heard of babies actually reacting like that, most don't realize the cradle cap is even there. Maybe your docotr can reccommend a dandruff type pf treatment.

Perhaps the issue goes beyond cradle cap, could it be an allergy to a hat/laundry soap?...
First i would call his peditrician. And if you use oil on his head then use Baby oil. It is made for babys anyway But i would really call his doctor he will know what is best for him and safe.
that鈥檚 normal the baby dandruff don鈥檛 bug the baby, and as for the bald spot its normal try to give her more tummy time they get bald spots form being on the back of there head to much in the car seat, swing, bouncer ect.. And they a suppose to lose hair its ok it will come back within the year don鈥檛 worry and don鈥檛 use another shampoo its ok calm down.
olive oil works great for dry scalp or cradle cap. IMO it works better then baby oil... Leave it on his head for about 5-10 mins, then wash it with a creamy baby wash like Aveeno, made for dry skin, and take a soft baby brush and scrub his head.

Dont wash his hair too often, that can attribute to dry scalp.. 1-2 times a week is plenty, especially in the winter months.

How good is it to wash my mouth with a sunflower/olive/sesame oil first in the mornig for 15 minutes?

That's an awful long time to wash your mouth with anything.

It's not going to hurt you, but it's pretty nasty and won't really do a whole lot either.

If i put Petroleum in my hair and then olive oil and then flat iron it.Will it make my hair longer ?

No it will not make it longer. It will weigh it down and make it very flat which might make it ';appear'; to be just a fraction of an inch longer...but getting the petroleum..assuming you are talking about vaseline?..out of your hair would be much worse than any benefit of trying to make it look longer. Hair grows from the inside and their is absolutely nothing that you can put on your hair to make it longer or grow longer or faster. It comes from inside..so how could any product make it grow? The products that advertise this are wrong. There are certain shampoos and treatments that are made to make hair grow faster but the only way they work is by massaging the scalp on a regular basis which causes stimulation and causes more blood flow around the hair follicles which CAN..not always..help some people's hair grow faster. If you want longer hair, the best thing you can do is to just let it grow naturally and take excellent care of it while you are waiting. The average person's hair grow's 1/2 inch a month. I know that's slow..for some people it's faster and some it's slower..but the most important thing is to take good care of it and don't put chemicals or other damaging products on it so it is healthy when it does get longer. You could have very long hair but if it's not healthy..it's not very pretty. Have you thought about extensions? Or try some different styles while waiting for it to get longer. I just wouldn't recommend the petroleum..and not sure about the olive oil either. Best wishes and good luck!If i put Petroleum in my hair and then olive oil and then flat iron it.Will it make my hair longer ?
I think no because those ingredients are mixed....If i put Petroleum in my hair and then olive oil and then flat iron it.Will it make my hair longer ?
NO. You will just fry your hair. Vaseline has an ingredient that is harmful to your hair. The ingridents causes the hair to become sticky, greasy and holds dirt.

If not, what is the best use of these oil for hairs? or any other suggestion ?Use of Olive and Almond oil mixed 2-3 times a week wil help in retaining or growing more hairs ?
almond oil is very good for hair, it makes it strong and healthier. olive oil is also very good. Mustard oil works wonder but it stinks bad. if you want healthy and hair that shine, use mustard oil. i gurantee, you will see the difference after a few weeks. good luckUse of Olive and Almond oil mixed 2-3 times a week wil help in retaining or growing more hairs ?
Usually what oil helps is to keep your hair healthy and retain the moisture which is lost due to shampoo or harsh sun or any other harsh climate. But this helps hair to grow properly the natural way. But if you dont use oil then sometimes the hair dint grow at the pace they should due to lack of nutrients and moisture. And then when you apply oil they get the nutrients they want and start to grow. This makes us feel that oils make hair grow! So you can say yes indirectly they make hair grow!

Ya you can use these 2 oils alternatively. Usually almond oil is for dry hair and olive for normal hair.I can say for sure that it will be good for your hair. Cant say if it will retain or grow your hair.. It depends on many things..
Yes olive oil helps. Rub olive oil into the scalp and massage to promote hair growth or else massage the scalp with egg yolk, leave for 1 hour and wash. Try http://solutionsforhairgrowth.blogspot.c鈥?/a> for more remedies and details.

Is it true that olive oil doesn't stick to food as much as regular oil when frying pork chops or french fries?

my grandmother keeps saying its true, but i have a feeling she pulled this out of her ***.

im trying to convince her to stop frying things with olive oilIs it true that olive oil doesn't stick to food as much as regular oil when frying pork chops or french fries?
Actually, it NOT good to deep fry in olive oil because it has a very low smoke point. This is the point where the oils starts to break down. Peanut oils have a higher smoke point and can be used for deep frying with no worries. And if you fry at the right temperature, the food does not absorb as much oil.

Light sauteeing is fine with olive oil, just don't let it get too hot!Is it true that olive oil doesn't stick to food as much as regular oil when frying pork chops or french fries?
oil is more than a cartoon character, historic symbol of peace and glory or food staple of the much-vaunted Mediterranean diet. It is actually tremendously useful stuff, finding applications in personal care, home improvement, green cleaning, natural remedies and other areas.

It's long been reported that there are a number of health benefits of olive oil. As a foodstuff it has a high concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids, which studies show promote ';good'; cholesterol (HDL) while lowering ';bad'; cholesterol (LDL). Olive oil is also known to be gentle on the digestive system, and even may help prevent gallstones and soothe ulcers. Good quality olive oil contains valuable vitamins and nutrients, and it is loaded with antioxidants, which many believe help protect the body from cancer.

These days there are an increasing array of organic and boutique olive oils offered for sale, some of them quite pricey. In general, the less processed an oil the more nutrients it contains, although the more expensive it tends to be. ';Extra virgin'; olive oil comes from the first pressing of olives, and retains the most flavor and aroma. Most better brands are also advertised as ';cold pressed,'; meaning they aren't heated up beyond room temperature during processing. Unsurprisingly, high heat can damage the flavor and nutrients in the oil. ';Virgin'; olive oil generally comes from the second pressing. Cheaper brands sold as ';regular'; or ';pure'; olive oil are made with chemical refining and filtering, which standardize and neutralize flavors and acid contents. They have lower nutrient levels as a result.

To help protect the fragile environments of the Mediterranean and elsewhere, it's a good idea to buy organic olive oil when you can. It also will tend to be of high quality and flavor, great for spaghetti, oven-roasted vegetables, fresh salads and many other dishes.
    hi!

no, olive oil doesn't work as well. i mean it dose work, but the regular oil works way better.

my dad always cooks with it, and it doesn't quite do the job. then when my mom cooks them, she used the regular, and it tastes much better.

also, when you cook , the olive one doesn't taste right. plus, it has more fat in it as the regular oil.

    hope this helped!
I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that it is healthier to fry with olive oil than vegetable oil (if you have to fry in the first place).

  • Does Virgin Olive Oil help you lose weight?

my friend told me that a spoonful of olive oil when I wake up and before I go to sleep would help speed up weight loss while I was dieting and exercising. Is it a wives tale,? was he pulling my chain? or is it true?Does Virgin Olive Oil help you lose weight?
It's 100 calories a tablespoon, it's not a weight loss tool. Exercise every day, even if it's just a walk. Go on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Eat fish, eggs, chicken, occasional lean beef or pork, low fat cottage cheese. Stay away from regular cheese, no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, peas, beans (except green beans). Only one piece of fruit a day and no fruit juice (it's sugar water, my dr says). Cut down on carrots and tomatoes (included ketchup). Use mustard instead of mayonnaise in recipes. Eat lots of salads, green vegetables. Salads only have one tablespoon of dressing for the whole salad. No ice cream, or other desserts.Does Virgin Olive Oil help you lose weight?

Why is light harmful for olive oil?

So? regardsWhy is light harmful for olive oil?
Oh yes, light is certainly harmful for olive oil; in fact for most liquid vegetable oil.

The easiest technical reason is that olive oil is a monosaturated fat - where there is a double bond between two carbons in a long chain of carbons. Light induces the breakage of this double bond into a single bond and in the process adding two additional hydrogens to the respective carbons. This is common known as the oil getting rancid; the proper term is lipid peroxidation(if you are interested, look it under in wikipedia.)

And then you might ask what is so bad of this process. The reason olive oil is conducive to health is because of the presence of this double bond. Saturated oils, from meat and dairy product, are ';saturated'; meaning there is no double bond anywhere and ';maximum'; number of hydrogens are attached to the carbons on the chain( thus the chain is saturated with hydrogen atoms).

What is so bad about saturated oil is that it allows very tight packing of oils and the oil becomes plaque in the arterial wall causing circulatory disease.

On the other hand, this kink(double bond) in unsaturated oil allows greater freedom for the oil molecule to move around and not causing plaque.

This is a simplified technical explanation, but sufficient enough for you to understand some basic concepts. Why is light harmful for olive oil?
I've never heard such a thing. Most olive oil is sold in

    transparent plastic jugs.

Virgin Oil olive although is sometimes sold in darker jugs.

If the sunlight is bad for it , it would be that the light causes

the chemical composition of it to change and it would spoil.
Light is not harmful, but light will eventually reduce the useful antioxidant effects of olive oil.

When you buy it in bulk, and I know few people who do that as a rule, it usually comes in a can and it is best to keep that can in a cool place, such as a cool dry dark room. Pour off only a small portion that you keep close to your cooking area for everyday use. Most of us just buy them in the small containers and those are used up fast so it is ok to keep them next to the stove within arms reach.

    ====================

Many people ask about the proper storage temperature for olive oil. Heat speeds up all of the above reactions. Keeping your oil next to the stove in a clear bottle will quickly age it. Better to keep a large container in a dark, cool cupboard and pour a small amount into a dispenser for everyday use. Olive oil can be put into the refrigerator or freezer without harm, which will greatly extend its shelf life.
Olive oil for cooking? I don't know why light would be bad for it. All the great cooks I know and even myself keep it out on the counter near the stove at all times.
All oils can break down and become rancid. Light accelerates this process. Olive oil is particularly susceptible to this since it has a unique flavor.

For a super technical explanation see:

    a simpler one:

Sounds suspicious. The olive oil I cook with still has the same excellent quality as the day I bought it. Ciao.
Light can break down fragile fat molecules. The oxidation or breakdown of fat causes the once harmless fat molecule into a harmful substance that may cause cancer or otherwise harm the body.

How much olive oil is extracted from one tree?

The amount of oil contained in the fruit differs greatly in the various cultivars; the pericarp is usually 60-70% oil. Typical yields are 1.5-2.2 kg of oil per tree per yearHow much olive oil is extracted from one tree?
It varies by variety of tree from about 1 litre per tree to 20 litres per tree. How much olive oil is extracted from one tree?
None at all. The oil is obtained from the fruit of the tree (Olives)

The more fruit the tree produces the more oil and virgin Olive oil is produced on the first pressing only.
Oil comes from the olives, not the tree. The quantity of oil would depend on the quantity of olives - obvious, I suppose.
none, it comes from ther olives.

What olive oil tastes less like olive?

I have high cholesterol but I don't like the taste of olives! help! What olive oil tastes less like olive?
Olive oil doesn't taste like olives ( really).

But if you think it does, go with a ';light'; or ';extra light'; oil.

These are not what I usually recommend.

Nothing is better then a cold pressed ';Extra Virgin'; or ';Virgin'; oil.

I would recommend in this case Bertolli or Berio( from Lucca, Italy), but any light oil will do the trick.

But if you never had olive oil, try a good extra virgin.

I recommend Fernando Pensato Brand because it's the best oil( an expensive) in the world( I am also the importer-:)

    DEB,

    So you know;

    Color does not mean anything.

    Darker does not mean stronger.

    Greener does not mean better.

It's all about the olive varietal used and as far as ';Green'; goees, all a producer would have to do to make their oil greener is to add leaves in with the pressing. The leaves give off Chlorophyll and the oil becomes green.

Never judge an oil by color. What olive oil tastes less like olive?
Olive oil does not really taste like olives.

The darker the oil, the stronger the flavor but still not like olives.

Extra virgin, organic, cold-pressed would be the best for you but if you want to start with a lighter olive oil, they are available too.

Check out this link. Has lots of good info.
